At Mary Lee Johnston Community Learning Center, children from ages six to 12 are served in our school age classroom. The school aged years are a stepping stone for years to come in higher education. The school age classrooms at MLJCLC are rich in learning experiences and maintaining skills that are learned in a school setting. These children also participate in field trips that engage their mind and help them gain exposure.

Our mission is to ensure all of our school-age children continue to grow into confident, responsible, and successful individuals both in and out of the classroom. Our program provides a safe, engaging environment where children can strengthen their academic skills through homework support, reading, problem-solving, and hands-on learning activities. School-age children continue developing their gross motor skills through outdoor play, organized games, sports, and physical activities that promote teamwork, coordination, and healthy lifestyles. They also refine their fine motor skills through creative projects, writing, STEM activities, and arts and crafts. We encourage independence by helping children build responsibility, leadership, decision-making, and social-emotional skills while fostering positive friendships and respect for others. Our program inspires curiosity, creativity, and confidence as children explore new interests, develop lifelong skills, and prepare for future success.

School-age children develop strong friendships and enjoy working together through shared interests, teamwork, and positive social interactions. Our program provides a balance of academic support, enrichment, and recreation to help children grow both inside and outside the classroom. Children are encouraged to complete homework, strengthen critical thinking skills, and participate in hands-on activities that spark creativity and curiosity. Our classrooms continue to follow a child-centered approach that promotes independence, responsibility, and confidence. Through engaging projects, leadership opportunities, and collaborative experiences, children build communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills that prepare them for success in school and beyond.
